overheard
Today I ate lunch on the campus side since today was pasta day. They are tearing down the building where I used to get paninis so they put a little place in the art building, which may not be the art building anymore now that I think of it. Back on track: they have tortellini which I love, today they had pesto which I also love. It was pretty good, but it being on the campus side and it was packed with sorority gals. Definitely a different breed of sorority gal than I am used to, but I attended a state school. So I'm eating my pasta, reading my book (more later), trying to ignore a conversation nearby but it was impossible. One of the girls was relating a story. It seems this girl, who we'll call Tammy, was cut by a certain sorority in the first round of rush. She believes she was cut due to something she said. It seems that one of the sisters asked about a high school classmate of Tammy's. Tammy replies that she never hung out with the guy, as he was Jewish and all the Jewish kids only hungout with other Jewish kids. So Tammy asks the sister what her major is? According to Tammy it's Hebrew or something so Tammy guesses she must be Jewish. Tammy figured the sister just took that the wrong way. She didn't mean anything by it! Just stating a fact!
So, then I go to my therapy appointment. I'm reading My Sister's Keeper which is so far about a girl conceived for the sole purpose of saving her sister (donating blood, marrow, stem cells, etc) she's filed a petition for emancipation. That's all I know so far. So, gent next to me asks about the book and I tell him what I know so far, and he seems disgusted. He tells me how awful the idea is and he could NEVER imagine having a child just so the other would live. He has two daughters! All this with a disgusted tone. He turns away and violently turns the pages of the magazine he's reading. As though I'm involved somehow. Rules to follow:
